University of Maryland Directory Accounts

This is your UMD account.  This account allows you access to the VPN (Virtual Private Network), library accounts, time sheet reporting, your UMD exchange mail account and computers in UMD computer labs.

Your directory ID is established based on your name and is generated by the Office of Information Technology (OIT).  To find if you have been established within the UMD computing resources system search for yourself in the UMD directory here**:

Time Sheets

Log in with your Directory Id and Password

The directory Id and Password is used in all UMD systems as the universal username and password.

Change Primary E-mail Address

A field in your employee data electronic file determines where the UMD system will send your e-mail. It can be any your assigned university account, a .gov account or any domestic e-mail system like gmail, yahoo, Hotmail, etc.  It may not work with a non-US based e-mail system.

 

Access you r personal data file from ares.umd.edu. Log in with your Directory Id and Password.

Go To Payroll & Human Resources System(PHR)-> Access Personal PHR Information

Find the field

 

In the area with the email address, whatever email address is there is where the UMD mail will be sent. When updating to the UMD system mail, you must use <DID>@g.umd.edu format. Without the after the @ sign, the forward will not work.  After changing the field, scroll to the page bottom and click the <Update>button.  The changes will take place in the next 24 hours.
