Outlook G-Mail Migration

Solution

Outlook G-mail Migration

Outlook and most other mail clients are not supported by DIT

g-mail setting changes

enable imap

Go to setting ->forwarding and POP/IMAP and enable IMAP

Enable 2-factor authentication for google accounts

                My accounts ->Sign-in & security ->

Find “2_step Verification” and toggle it on

From this point forward signing into google accounts will require 2 step verification. To sign into a different computer, a text code will be sent and need to be verified. For a mail client, a 1time use password will be generated by the user and need to be installed within 10 minutes.  Generate an App password and move to setting up Outlook.

Outlook configuration

Choose internet mail and set-up manually for office 20100. Other versions may not give the manual set-up option until configuration fails.

Incoming server

                Imap.gamil.com  SSL port 993

Use the Directory ID and app password generated by google

Outgoing server

Smtp.gmail.com TLS port 587 (SSL an Macs)

Select more settings -. Outgoing Server  toggle “use the same settings as my incoming mail server”

Click through OK and Apply. Oultook should sync with g-mail now, in theory.

If it does not…..

double check the port settings in outlook

revoke and reset the app password

The password used in outlook is not the UMD password but the app password from google.
